you can use any program as long as it has a gradient, burn and dodge tool! ^^
photoshop is the best, but you could try downloading open canvas?
I'm not quite sure where my photoshop disk is otherwise i'd lend it to you DX I cant imagine being photoshopless...it would be like being naked
